Device Pairing

Connect new drones and controllers to your IDI Fly Dashboard account.


Overview

Device pairing establishes a secure connection between your equipment and the IDI Fly platform, enabling:

  • Remote monitoring and control
  • Telemetry data transmission
  • Cloud storage integration
  • Fleet management

Prerequisites

Before pairing a device:

  1. Account Access - Valid IDI Fly account with device management permissions
  2. Device Requirements:
    • Compatible aircraft or controller
    • Updated firmware
    • Active internet connection
  3. Network - WiFi or cellular connectivity

Pairing a Drone

Step 1: Access Device Management

  1. Navigate to Settings > Device Management
  2. Click Add Device or Pair New Device

Step 2: Select Device Type

Choose your device category:

  • Aircraft - Drones and UAVs
  • Controller - Remote controllers
  • Dock - Docking stations

Step 3: Power On Device

  1. Turn on the aircraft
  2. Ensure all lights indicate ready status
  3. Wait for device to complete boot sequence

Step 4: Connect to Device

Via QR Code:

  1. Display QR code on your screen
  2. Use the device’s camera or app to scan
  3. Confirm pairing on both ends

Via Serial Number:

  1. Enter device serial number
  2. Enter verification code (if required)
  3. Click Pair

Via Network Discovery:

  1. Ensure device is on same network
  2. Click Search for Devices
  3. Select device from list
  4. Confirm pairing

Step 5: Verify Connection

  1. Device appears in your device list
  2. Status shows Online
  3. Telemetry data begins streaming

Pairing a Controller

Remote Controller Pairing

  1. Navigate to Device Management
  2. Click Add Controller
  3. Put controller in pairing mode (see device manual)
  4. Follow on-screen instructions
  5. Verify connection

Pairing a Dock

Dock Station Setup

  1. Install dock at desired location
  2. Connect dock to power and network
  3. Navigate to Device Management > Docks
  4. Click Add Dock
  5. Enter dock serial number or scan QR code
  6. Configure dock settings
  7. Verify connection

Device Information

After pairing, provide additional information:

Field Description
Name Custom device name
Group Assign to device group
Location Default operating location
Notes Additional information

Managing Paired Devices

View Device Details

  1. Select device from list
  2. View device information:
    • Serial number
    • Model
    • Firmware version
    • Connection status
    • Last activity

Edit Device

  1. Select device
  2. Click Edit
  3. Modify settings
  4. Click Save

Remove Device

  1. Select device
  2. Click Remove or Unpair
  3. Confirm removal

Removing a device disconnects it from your account. You’ll need to re-pair to use it again.


Device Groups

Organize devices into groups:

Creating Groups

  1. Navigate to Device Groups
  2. Click Create Group
  3. Enter group name
  4. Add devices to group
  5. Click Save

  • Organize by location
  • Organize by team
  • Filter device list
  • Apply group settings

Troubleshooting

Device Not Found

Issue Solution
Device not appearing Ensure device is powered on
Network issues Check WiFi/internet connection
Firmware outdated Update device firmware
Already paired Remove from previous account

Pairing Failed

Issue Solution
Invalid serial Double-check serial number
Connection timeout Move closer to router
Permission denied Verify account permissions
Server error Try again later

Connection Unstable

Issue Solution
Frequent disconnects Improve network stability
High latency Check internet speed
Signal weak Reduce distance to access point

Security Considerations

Secure Pairing

  • Pairing creates encrypted connection
  • Each device has unique credentials
  • Access limited to your account

Best Practices

  • Only pair devices you own or are authorized to use
  • Remove devices no longer in use
  • Regularly review paired devices
  • Keep firmware updated

Multi-Account Considerations

Transferring Devices

To use a device on a different account:

  1. Remove device from current account
  2. Pair device with new account

A device can only be paired to one account at a time.

Shared Devices

Devices can be shared within an organization:

  • All team members with appropriate roles can access
  • Access controlled by administrator
  • Activity logged by user
